Cloud Computing Help Please?

I'm about to start learning about cloud computing in school and I need some help understanding it all. My teacher gave me the question "What role does the Internet play in cloud computing?" and I have no idea what cloud computing is so I can't answer that. It would really help me out if you guys left some insight.

Cloud computing is an idea that files can be stored on the internet and accessed anyway. Many experts believe that this is a very secure way to store files. A few examples of cloud computing are Windows Live SkyDrive and Google Docs. Cloud computing is set up as follows (a basic understanding): A company, such as Google, set up servers throughout the entire country and even the world. When you store a file in Google Docs, that file may be store as a whole file on several different servers, or can be split up onto several different servers. This makes it secure because if someone intercepts a server, they will not have access to the entire file or if one of the servers goes down, your file is stored elsewhere so you always have access to it. Most of the time Cloud Storage is accessed via a web browser but utilities such as Cloud Explorer from Gladinet make it easy for a user to "mount" the Cloud Storage device on your personal PC so you can access it as you would a network drive. However, the internet is obviously required for Cloud Computing to even be possible. Understanding Cloud Storage will help you understand Cloud Computing. One great example of Cloud Computing comes from Microsoft. On their website you can "Test Drive" Microsoft Office. What this does is connects to to one of their secure servers and presents you with actual copies of Microsoft Office that makes it seem as if you are using it on your own PC. Another example is within Windows Live SkyDrive, you can edit your documents online in a web version of Microsoft Office.Cloud Computing Help Please?
