What is the difference between cloud computing, dedicated server, web hosting and domain name customer base ?

I'd like to know more about themWhat is the difference between cloud computing, dedicated server, web hosting and domain name customer base ?
I assume you mean cloud hosting...

cloud hosting is basically a large group of computers all connecting and sharing your data and instantaneously scaling up or down depending o the demand from the user. So in hosting, the computers hosting your website would combine their resources to handle higher than normal needs during certain times.

dedicated server is when you basically lease a computer that is somewhere else, to host your website on. That "somewhere else" has computer admins, backup systems in place and security protocols to protect your data.

not sure what domain name customer base is, but a domain name is the actual name of your website in .com .net .org etc.. format. yahoo.com is a domain name. google.com is a domain name.

When you type in google.com into your address bar, your computer interacts with a NameServer (godaddy for instance) and this Name Server gives your computer the IP address associated with that domain name that you typed into the address bar. This makes it easier to get around the web, otherwise you would have to remember the IP address of every website you ever go to.

  1. To put it simple, Dedicated servers have limited resources. There is a limit on the number of processors or hard drives that you can put into a dedicated server. You cannot run 100k websites from one dedicated server.

But you can do that with a cloud hosting, as you can add the same server hardware to a cloud, and the power of the cloud will just go on increasing. The resources of all the servers and computers in the cloud are shared, and therefore, a reseller hosting company can virtually host billions and billions of sites in what would look like just 1 server, but which actually is a cloud of several hundreds of servers.

Cloud hosting in a very large scale is highly profitable since management costs would come down, however, the hardware costs would just remain the same.
